Discharge of planning conditions

Third Revolution’s planners gained planning permission in November 2022 on behalf of Enviromena, one of the UK’s largest clean energy solutions companies, and their joint venture partner RE Projects Development.

The approval was for a 9MW solar farm that will provide power to over 2,500 homes and will offset around 3,700 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum for 40 years. This will help contribute to the Welsh Government’s target of achieving net zero in Wales by 2050.

The site is very close to the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and to important views from high points to the north, and so the development area was carefully chosen to minimise visual impacts and to ensure the solar farm would be viewed in the context of the existing industrial area.

The site contains historic coal mining features and as such detailed engagement and mitigation measures were required with the Coal Authority throughout the planning process. Furthermore, detailed engagement was also undertaken with Natural Resources Wales to ensure nearby ecology sites were protected and habitats on site were enhanced, including for rare butterflies.

In accordance with Welsh policy, the team undertook a full pre-application consultation with officers, statutory and other consultees and the local community

Members unanimously supported the application and drew on the importance of green energy delivery across Wales when discussing the scheme.

Third Revolution Projects also worked with Enviromena on the discharge of planning conditions alongside minor amendments to the scheme post determination.

The project was energised at the end of 2023.
