Third Revolution Projects worked with RE Projects Development to secure planning permission via planning committee for a 49.9MW BESS located in South Staffordshire in November 2024. The proposed development is located on approximately 1.3 hectares of previously developed Green Belt land in South Staffordshire.

By storing excess renewable energy when it is abundant and releasing it at peak demand, the project will play a crucial role in stabilising the grid, addressing supply-demand imbalances, and furthering the UK’s goals for net-zero emissions by 2035.

Throughout the determination stages, TRP worked closely with the applicant’s team to address several key matters, including development of a drainage strategy with strong pollution control measures, Fire and Rescue Service concerns, environmental health comments regarding noise impacts, ecology, landscape and visual considerations. By working closely with expert consultants and planning officers, we resolved all outstanding challenges regarding the site, making the development acceptable on all material considerations and demonstrating the clear existence of very special circumstances to allow the development to be permitted.

The applicant engaged proactively with statutory bodies, South Staffordshire Council and Trysull & Seisdon Parish Council, resulting in no opposition to the proposals at planning committee, where members recognised the importance of renewable energy projects such as this in tackling climate change and members unanimously voted to approve the scheme.
