To demonstrate the huge economic benefits that can be created from solar developments, an economic benefits statement was produced to support the planning application. The highlights of the reporting are outlined below:

Construction & Decommissioning

  • Up to 1,306 person-years of construction/decommissioning employment, including roles in construction, professional services, and supply chains.
  • Combined capital investment related to construction across the solar and BESS components of £40 million which will benefit the local economy.
  • A further £54.9 million in employment-related Gross Value Added (GVA) during construction alone.

Operation

  • Over 13 long term jobs inthe net zero economy
  • £2.4 million in local business rates
  • Potential energy bill savings of £122 million
  • 52,560 Metric Tonnes of Carbon Savings
  • Ability to power more than 8,000 homes annually
  • £480,000 Community Benefit Fund

By quantifying these economic benefits of development, the local community and decision maker is able to fully understand the positive impacts a planning application can have, significantly improving the chance of obtaining consent.
